The taxi fare & meter website
Built on the official maximum fares set by every Australian state and territory regulator — with a live GPS meter on your phone, and proof if the driver’s meter tells a different story.
Tip: in Safari tap Share → Add to Home Screen and it works like a regular app.
Free to use. No card required. Live tracking runs on your device; your profile, rides and settings are stored securely under your account at autaxifare.com.
By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy below. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. We ask you to confirm your acceptance when you first sign up, every 30 days, and whenever these terms change. You must be 18 or older, or have a parent or guardian’s permission.
The Service is an independent, informational tool that estimates taxi fares from publicly available hail-and-rank fare schedules, records the route of rides you choose to track, and lets you keep and email your own ride records.
It is not a taxi meter, a booking service, a payment service, legal or financial advice, or an official record. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for any taxi operator, booking service, driver, transport regulator or government agency. Regulator and operator names are shown for your information only.
Fares, distances, times, tolls, surcharges and route deviations are estimates. They depend on GPS accuracy, mobile coverage, map and traffic data from third parties, and fare schedules that change and may be out of date or incomplete. The taxi’s official meter, the operator’s published fares and the applicable regulator’s rules always prevail. Pre-booked, rideshare and private hire vehicles may charge differently. You should not rely solely on the Service when deciding what to pay, whether to make a complaint, or any other decision.
Your personal safety comes first. Never use the Service to confront, threaten, argue with or harass a driver or anyone else. If you believe you have been overcharged or taken off route, pay any amount you are required to pay, leave safely, and raise it afterwards with the operator or regulator. If you are in immediate danger call 000. Otherwise contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or the taxi authority for your state (listed under More → State & Territory Regulations). Do not operate the Service while driving.
Respect other people’s privacy. Do not photograph or record people without their consent, and only record what the law allows. The Service does not record audio.
Keep your email account secure, as anyone who can read your email can sign in to your account; you are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you think your account has been misused. You must use an email address that you own or are authorised to use.
You must not: misuse, overload, probe or disrupt the Service or its security; access other people’s data; scrape, copy or reverse-engineer the Service; send spam or unwanted messages through it; share rides with or add contacts without their consent; or use it to make false, misleading or defamatory claims about any person or business. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms.
You own the ride records, notes and photos you create (“your content”). You give us a limited licence to store, process and transmit your content only to provide the Service to you. You are responsible for your content and for how you use any report, including any complaint you make — make sure it is accurate and fair.
The Service relies on third parties, including Google Maps Platform (maps, places, routes and tolls — Google’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy also apply), Cloudflare (hosting and storage) and Google Gmail (email delivery). We are not responsible for their availability, accuracy or conduct.
The Service is provided free of charge, on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Free accounts show your 5 most recent saved rides; Premium shows up to 30. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it, and may reset or delete stored data (including accounts and ride history) when the Service is changed — keep your own copies of any report that matters to you, for example by emailing it to yourself. We may update these terms; we will ask you to accept the new version before you continue.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where our liability for a failure to comply with such a guarantee can be limited, it is limited (at our option) to supplying the relevant service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
Subject to section 10, and to the maximum extent permitted by law: (a) we give no warranty that the Service or any estimate is accurate, complete, uninterrupted, secure or fit for any purpose; (b) we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Service — including fare disputes, overcharging, the conduct of any driver, operator or passenger, route choices, delays, missed connections, lost or deleted data, or unauthorised access to your device or account; (c) we are not liable for any indirect, consequential, special or economic loss, or loss of profit, revenue, opportunity or data; and (d) our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to AUD $1.
To the extent permitted by law, you indemnify us against any claim, loss, cost or liability (including reasonable legal costs) arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the Service, or your content — including any report, complaint, photo or shared ride you create or send.
The Service, its software, design, text, logos and fare engine are owned by us or our licensors and protected by law. You may use them only as permitted by these terms. Public fare schedules remain the property of the relevant authorities.
You may stop using the Service at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms or if we discontinue the Service. Sections 3, 7 and 9–15 survive.
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales and the courts that may hear appeals from them. If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
Account: your login email, a preferred email for reports (if you set one), app settings, up to three sharing contacts (name and email) that you enter, and records of when you accepted these terms. Rides you choose to track: start and end points and addresses, the GPS route, times, distances, fare figures, tolls, deviation data, and any taxi details, notes, ratings and photos you add. Technical: your IP address and request details are used briefly for security (for example, limiting repeated sign-in emails and wrong sign-in codes) and are kept in those counters for no more than 24 hours; our hosting provider keeps standard short-term request logs.
Directly from you and, with your permission, from your device’s location services while you use the Service. Live metering, detour detection and toll detection run on your device.
To create and secure your account; to estimate fares and look up addresses and routes; to store and show your ride history on your devices; to email ride reports and sign-in links and codes when you request them; to run live-ride sharing when you start it; to respond to support requests; to protect the Service against misuse; and to meet legal obligations. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and do not use it for advertising or profiling.
Only: Cloudflare (hosting and storage); Google (map, place, route and toll lookups — coordinates and the text you search, not your name or email — and email delivery through Gmail); the contacts you choose when you share a live ride (only while that ride is shared); the email address you ask a report to be sent to; and authorities where the law requires it. These providers may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries where they operate. By using the Service you consent to this overseas disclosure; we choose providers with strong security practices, but APP 8.1 may not apply to their handling.
If you add someone as a sharing contact or send a report to another address, you confirm they have agreed to receive it and to us handling their email address for that purpose.
All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS). There is no password or PIN to steal: you sign in with a single-use link or 4-digit code emailed to you, which expires after 2 hours; 5 wrong codes cancel it and lock that email address out of sign-in codes for 24 hours. Sign-in then uses a secure, HttpOnly cookie on that device. New report addresses must be confirmed by email. No system is completely secure, so keep your email account and your device locked.
Account and ride data: until you delete it, ask us to, or the Service is reset or discontinued. Sign-ins: up to 90 days from last use. Sign-in links and codes: 2 hours. Preferred Email confirmation links: 24 hours. Shared-ride data: until the ride ends and at most 6 hours. Security counters: up to 24 hours. Delete any ride from History at any time.
We use one essential sign-in cookie. Your device also stores your settings, a cached copy of your rides and a crash-recovery copy of a ride in progress. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
You can view and correct most information in the app. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, or to make a privacy complaint, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (www.oaic.gov.au).
We will show you any updated policy and ask you to accept it before you continue using the Service.
